Peter Tecklenburg was elected Charleston County Auditor in 2012. He follows Mrs. Peggy Moseley, who served as Auditor for the preceding twenty years. He was raised in Charleston and graduated from Bishop England High School. Peter holds a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of South Carolina.
Prior to election, Tecklenburg worked in the administrative offices for CARTA, the local public transportation authority. Peter's role at CARTA was focused on efficiency, compliance, and organizational management. Peter's professional interests include seeing that the Auditor's office is a leader in efficiency, transparency and responsiveness. Understanding that Charleston County has diverse needs, both rural and urban, he has taken a proactive approach to issues such as Heirs property and open land conservation.
A firm believer in public service and civic involvement, Tecklenburg was elected to the Charleston County District 10 Constituent School Board in 2010. He has previously served as a mentor at James Simons Elementary School, the president of his neighborhood association, and on various community committees. Tecklenburg currently serves on the board of directors for Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. He was awarded "40 Under 40" in 2008 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. Peter enjoys volunteering in the community and is a member of a number of local civic and fraternal organizations.
Peter is married to the former Stephanie Whitener. He and his wife live in West Ashley and are members of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Charleston. Peter is proud to be the second person in his family to serve as Charleston County Auditor, his grandfather Henry Tecklenburg, Jr. previously served from 1957-1963.
In an effort to provide more transparency, Charleston County Auditor Peter Tecklenburg has made available his statements of economic interests for the last four years. The documents are filed with the State Ethics Commission yearly and detail all public compensation and relevant financial reporting.
Internal expenses for the Auditor's office are also provided below on a month by month basis.
